Whereas,

* The mineral extraction industry represents one of the main pillars of the expansion of the Canadian economy.

* Sustained by an international economic system that puts the rights of capital above the rights of people, the presence of Candian corporations in the south generates socioeconomic transformations that feed social conflict and violence in local communities.  Sustentadas por un sistema económico internacional que vela por los derechos del capital

* In alliance with local governments these corporations co-opt democratic participation, contaminate the water and destroy the environment; and are directly responsible for repression of workers and environmental defenders who oppose their operations.

We rise against this injustice because we, the human beings of today, are the only ones who can change today’s history.

We struggle for a dignified, autonomous, and respectful world!

We have had enough of wasting our planet and lives for the benefit of a few!

With concrete actions we will take back the destiny of society.

As such,

* responding to the call for solidarity from the people of Latin America who struggle for a better world and their own models of development that are autonomous, sustainable, and democratic,

* for the well-being of human life and society,

* we call on all the Latin America solidarity organizations to participate, with the objective of articulating the struggle against mining in Canada and Latin America, coordinating the neccesary strategies to carry this struggle forward, and build a base of unity in the struggle that will allow us to stand in solidarity in a more effective way with Latin America
